Ayurvedic marma massage is a deep and efficient treatment that opens up stiffness in the body and balances the mind. In marma massage, the body's marmas, or in other words energy points, are pressed with fingers. This releases blood & fluid & energy flow in the body and effectively releases muscle tension. Marmas are treated with both light pressure and deep and firm pressure. This pressing might cause a short feeling of pain in the stiff point. This pain normally is released quickly.

Marmas are the junction points of different tissues of the body. Muscle insertion points, large blood vessels and nerve pathways pass through the marmas. Marma massage has a comprehensive and relaxing effect on the body. In addition to pressing of the marma points, the muscles are massaged with extensive warming and long massage strokes. The natural oil used in the massage is chosen to support the treatment. Ayurvedic marma massage is a good choice in case there are some spesific areas in the body which have either acute or chronic muscle pain or stiffness.

AYURVEDIC ABHYANGA MASSAGE

Ayurvedic abhyanga massage is one of the most traditional and common treatment in Ayurveda. Abhyanga is often referred as General massage in Ayurveda since it is suitable for almost everyone and has a positive effect on most people. Abhyanga massage warms up the body, increases blood circulation, removes fatigue and calms down the nervous system. Massage also increases the energy level and improves the quality of sleep.

Abhyanga massage is a light but very effective massage. The massage strokes are warming and soft. The body is massaged with the whole palm of the hand in broad and long massage strokes. The massage is suitable for those who need a soft and relaxing body massage. Vata (air & ether) and Pitta (fire & little water) types benefit a lot from Abhyanga.

Abhyanga massage is also excellent as the first massage for a treatment period, during which several massages are performed to release muscle tension and joint stiffness. Panchakarma treatment period often starts with Abhyanga.

AYURVEDIC NECK & SHOULDER TREATMENT, 45 min

Ayurvedic neck & shoulder treatment releases tension in the upper back, neck, shoulders and arms. The treatment begins with a warming herbal steaming (done with a towel). The steaming relaxes the muscles of the neck and shoulder area and prepares the upper back for the massage. After the steaming the treatment continues with Ayurvedic marma massage. Marma massage stimulates blood and fluid circulation, which removes pain substances from the muscles. The massage oil is selected individually for each treatment. During the massage, the neck-shoulder area is gently stretched, which increases muscle elasticity and relaxation.

The initial steaming takes approximately 10 min and the marma massage is done for approximately 35 min.

AYURVEDIC BACK TREATMENT, 60 min

Ayurvedic back treatment releases tension in the entire back, neck, shoulders and arms. The treatment begins with a warming herbal steaming (done with a towel), which relaxes the muscles of the sacrum area, middle back and upper back - including neck & shoulder area. After the steaming the treatment continues with Ayurvedic marma massage. Marma massage stimulates blood circulation and fluid circulation, which removes pain substances from the muscles. The massage oil is selected individually for each treatment. During the massage, the neck-shoulder area is gently stretched, which increases muscle elasticity and relaxation.

Ayurvedic back treatment is similar to Ayurvedic neck & shoulder treatment. Back treatment includes steaming and massage of the lower back and sacrum area in addition to the upper back area. The steaming in the beginning takes around 15 min. Marma massage is done for approximately 45 min.

AYURVEDIC SPORTS MASSAGE

In an Ayurvedic sports massage, both muscles and joints are massaged so that the metabolism in the area being massaged increases and muscle recovery from stress is accelerated. Ayurvedic sports massage has been used for hundreds of years to care for the body of South Indian martial arts performers (mainly Kalaripayattu). In the treatment, in addition to the massage, pressure and passive stretching are performed so that the muscles are stretched and the mobility of the joints increases. Ayurvedic sports massage is a balanced treatment in which the muscles are warmed up with the help of massage and muscle tension and blockages are effectively treated with versatile techniques. This massage is performed only by Ayurveda therapist Terry Thomas.

Chavutti tirumal is a massage that increases flexibility of the body and relaxes the muscles, which is done on the feet (soles). The roots of this massage go back more than 2000 years in Kerala, South India. Massage has developed hand in hand with the ancient Kerala martial art of Kalaripayattu. Chavutti tirumal (in Malayalam) directly translates to "massage that is done by pressing with the feet". The massage is done on the floor on a warm mattress. The massage uses heated sesame oil, which softens the skin. The massage movements performed on the legs are long and increase the elasticity of the muscles. The masseuse supports himself with his hands against a rope, a support tree or a wall, so that the masseuse gets an effective and soft massage grip on his feet. The curved shape of the soles enhances the muscle-softening effect of the massage. During the massage, light pressure is applied to the spine and joints. The presses increase the mobility of the joints and boost the metabolism.

AYURVEDIC KIZHI MASSAGE,

i.e. warm herbal bundle massage

Ayurvedic Kizhi massage invigorates fluid & blood circulation and reduces pain & swelling. Kizhi massage is done with a warm/hot herbal bundle which is soaked in warm oil. The body is massaged with this bundle using long massage movements. Muscles and joints are massaged and pressed with the bundle. This brings a feeling of warmth to the whole body and gently relaxes. Long massage movements on large muscles help to bring elasticity to the tissues - also to the deeper and sometimes tight layers of the muscles. Pressing the important muscle points and joints with the hot bundle aims in releasing pain.

Ayurvedic Kizhi massage is one of the best Ayurvedic treatment for 1) reducing swelling, 2) healing lower back pain, 3) lowering Vata (air & ether type) related muscle & joint pain and 4) softening Vata related chronic body/muscle tightness

Ayurvedic four-hand massage is a harmonizing treatment that softens deep muscle tensions and calms the mind. The massage is done by two Ayurveda masseurs, massaging the body like a mirror image at the same time on both sides of the body. This special massage gives a deep sense of relaxation. The massage movements are long and spread over muscles from massaging with the entire palm. The strokes include both lighter strokes and deep massage strokes that open up tension from deeper in the muscles. In the massage, masseurs also stop to relax and open up both acute tensions and chronically tight spots. Ayurvedic four-hand massage is a very traditional treatment in India, for example in Kerala. A four-hand massage is almost always part of the longer Ayurveda treatment sessions in India.
